PLEASE NOTE: Due to poor weather conditions, this event has been rescheduled to take place on Sunday 22 August 2021.
FAMILIES are invited to watch a battle of the NHS giants at a charity cricket match being held in Adlington next month.
Teams of doctors, nurses and healthcare workers from across the county will go head to head in the contest being held at Adlington Cricket Club on Sunday, 8 August, with proceeds going to Derian House Children’s Hospice.
The day will include fun for all the family – including alpacas, inflatables, face painting, performances from local dance troops, DJs, live music and magic!
There will be a fantastic selection of food and drink on offer from fresh wood fired pizzas to local ice cream and everyone’s summer favourite – the BBQ.
Teams from local NHS organisations will battle it out in the T20 match, with the winners being crowned North West NHS Champions.
Event organiser, Michael Bowers, said: “This event is bringing together the local community and NHS heroes from local hospital surgical departments in the hope that we can enjoy some well needed family time while supporting local small businesses and artists and of course to raise money for Derian House.
“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses who have provided raffle prizes to help us raise as much money as possible for this very worthy cause.”
Some of the raffle prizes up for grabs include vouchers for local restaurants, hair and beauty treatments, food and drink hampers, family days out such as theme parks, paintballing, escape rooms and much more.
Derian House is a Chorley-based charity which cares for more than 400 children and young people with serious conditions from across the North West, helping them to make the most of every moment.
Sarah Proctor, Community Fundraiser at Derian House Children’s Hospice, said: “The past 18 months have been challenging at Derian House. We saw our income fall dramatically as a result of the cancellation of fundraising events and closure of our charity shops. Despite this, we continued to be there for local children and families needing our help. We could not have done this without the incredible support of our local community and this event is a chance for everyone to have some fun.
“We’re really excited to be involved with the NHS cricket tournament now that events are restarting. We are so grateful to Michael for organising and to Adlington Cricket Club for hosting and we hope everyone will come along support local businesses, thank our local NHS heroes and support Derian House.”
In 2021 it will cost £5 million to run services at Derian House. With just 12% of this coming from government funding, the charity relies heavily on the generosity of its supporters.
