The winner of a brand new £250,000 house in Blackburn will always keep a little piece of Derian House Children’s Hospice with them thanks to a sweet gesture by the charity’s volunteers.
Plant cuttings grown by the children at the hospice have been lovingly planted in the back garden of the brand new property – being given away to one lucky winner this week.
The Great Big House Giveaway has been running for over a year and has so far raised almost £330,000 for Derian House, which offers palliative and end of life care to children from across the North West.
The plants, grown from seed by the children looked after at the hospice, and nurtured in the hospice greenhouse, have been planted in the gardens by Derian’s gardener Gareth Elliot and volunteers Lizzie Tyrer and Jessica Jackson.
Tickets to win the luxury family home, on the award-winning Green Hills development in Feniscowles, Blackburn, are only for sale until 11.59pm tomorrow (Tuesday, 13 September).
The lucky winner of the house will be announced at a fairground-themed gala ball organised by Kingswood Homes – who donated the house – at Hoghton Tower this Saturday.
With more than 20,000 entered into the draw, members of the public have just one day left to grab themselves a ticket to make sure they are in with a chance of winning the amazing prize.
Paul Jones, Managing Director of Kingswood Homes, said: “As a company we believe in supporting local charities and being aware of the incredible support that Derian House offers, we thought it would be a fantastic charity to support.
“Our homes are built with love, care and attention and we’re proud to be giving away a brand new home to help raise money for families who need it most.
“We’ve been building in Blackburn for the past four years and have created a great sense of community. There are lots of residents at Green Hills who love the open space and the views. We hope the winners of the Great Big House Giveaway will enjoy their new home.”
The house, designed by Wayne Hemingway’s team HemingwayDesign, has three bedrooms, an en-suite, a family lounge and a separate kitchen-diner.
Caroline Taylor, Head of Income, Communications and Marketing at Derian House Children’s Hospice, said: “Planting cuttings from our gardens into the garden of the Great Big House Giveaway home felt like a fitting gesture to make sure the lucky winner will always remember us and the wonderful difference this prize draw has meant for our families.
“Over the past year The Great Big House Giveaway has taken centre stage – it is the biggest prize draw we have ever done at Derian House and we’re so excited to find out who the winner is!
“We are the only charity we know of that has been donated a house completely free to raise money and couldn’t be more grateful to our friends at Kingswood Homes for this extremely generous gesture. This type of donation makes a real difference to the lives of our children and their families.”
Tickets start from just £5 for a bundle of 8 entries (in the 25% extra summer sale). To enter the prize draw visit www.derianhouse.co.uk/house
