THE first lucky lottery winner of 2021 has been announced and they’re generously giving back the prize to Derian House Children’s Hospice.
Patricia Hough, a retired art teacher from Chorley, became the first winner of the New Year to scoop the £1000 prize.
“I was so happy and so surprised! Of course I instantly knew what I wanted to do with it which was to give it back to Derian House,” Patricia said.
Derian House Children’s Hospice looks after more than 400 children and young people with life-limiting conditions from across the North West. Care is free for families, but services cost £4.8million to run every year.
Patricia continued: “We think the work that Derian House do is so important and so wonderful and we know that they receive less than 10% of the funding they need from the government so it’s a lot of money they have to find.”
With only a fraction of funding coming from statutory sources, the charity relies heavily on the generosity of its supporters and players of the lottery.
Angela Towers, Lottery Manager at Derian House said: “We are extremely grateful to Patricia for her wonderfully kind donation and very thankful to all of our lottery players.
By playing the Derian House Lottery you’re helping us to continue to provide care for children and young people whose lives are too short.”
Playing for 1 month could pay for art supplies for a session of specialised play, enabling the Play Team to help children create treasured pieces for their loved ones.
Playing for 6 months could go towards a hydrotherapy session for a child giving them freedom from the confines of their medical equipment, allowing them to stretch their legs, relax and have fun.
Playing for 12 months can provide a one-to-one counselling session with a Family Support Counsellor, helping families to cope with illness and bereavement.
You can support Derian House Children’s Hospice by playing the lottery from just £1 per week and could be in with a chance of winning up to £25,000.
Patricia is the third lucky winner of the £1000 prize in the last 3 months, it could be you next!
Patricia urges: “Do it! What have you got to lose? If you play and you don’t win, Derian House still wins. But if you do win – even better!”
